A group of Rostered Leaders in the Metro DC Synod, ELCA visited Garfield United Methodist Church (UMC) in Clevleand, OH in May 2018. Garfiled UMC is a 1,100 member church in three locations. It is throroughly multi-ethic, multi-classed, gay/straight, and conservatives/liberals friendly. This Developing Leaders, New Connections workshop was held at the MetroDC Synod Assembly in June 2018. Participants discussed our desire to be more multi-cultural as we make new connections in our communities and grow our churches. This is based off of Mark Deymaz' book, Building a Healthy Multi-Ethnic Church - Mandate, Commitments, and Pratices of a Diverse Congregation. Slides presented by the Rev. Dr. Phil Hirsch and Ms. Christy Hartigan at Synod Assembly 2018 are available for download. ,
